It follows almost the same script every time — and it has cost Indian families crores of rupees. Chandigarh Police, the Indian Express, and the Times of India have been writing it down.
1.The convincing paperwork. An agent or “consultancy” hands you a job offer, work permit, or signed contract for Europe — often on letterhead that looks real, with stamps and signatures.
2.The upfront payment. You are asked to pay a large “processing,” “visa,” or “recruitment” fee — typically ₹1.5 to ₹30 lakh — before anyone independent has seen the file.
3.The disappearance. The visa is refused as fraudulent, or the office shuts overnight. Phones go silent. You are left with no job, no visa, and no way to recover the money.
Warning signs your agent's documents may be fake
- The agent pressures you to pay the full fee “today only” before you see final documents.
- The offer, permit, or contract arrives as a WhatsApp or email PDF, with no way to confirm the employer.
- Salary, company name, or job title changes between the chat and the final paperwork.
- The agent discourages you from checking the file yourself or calling the employer.
- The domain on the offer letter does not match the employer’s real website.
- Recruitment fees are demanded upfront — illegal in most destination countries’ labour laws.
